Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
