Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell featuring continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the idea that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he told his interviewer: “I said I won't manage any other side within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches across various tournaments post heavy investment, but he rubbished the notion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and its impact at the club. Jota lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling this past summer.
“Can you substitute such an individual? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad also. Not a single person would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is challenging. Overwhelming.”
