Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
