Netflix announced this week that the talented performer is now part of the One Piece cast for the third season and will portray Bon Clay. The role possesses the power to morph into an identical duplicate of any person they’ve touched with their dominant hand. The actor, who is identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, will play a rendition of that character reimagined as non-binary identifying, rather than as a drag performer, in the live-action series, as in the original manga and anime.
Escola is joined by several other recently announced actors set to bring the organization to reality, including chief Sir Crocodile, brought to life by the well-known actor, an emerging star as another operative, and an accomplished actor, who also joins the lineup as the ruler of Alabasta.
Even though this character is a major member of the group, the persona won’t appear until One Piece the upcoming installment. With the next season expected to adapt the Little Garden storyline, this represents a notable change in the schedule of Bon Clay’s introduction, one that could indicate more adjustments to the narrative framework.
Their mix of precise humor and deep sensitivity makes them a standout choice for the part. Besides their latest vocal work in the animated feature Boys Go to Jupiter, they garnered significant recognition and multiple awards for penning and acting in the popular theatrical show Oh Mary!, showcasing the versatility they’ll contribute to one of One Piece’s most celebrated characters.
Netflix's live-action One Piece program is scheduled to come back for its season two on the tenth of March, 2026.
