Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
