Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.

He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.

Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.

White House Invitation

The president said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Support

Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid public safety in the capital.

“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” the principal, the principal of her former high school, told the media. “She was sweet, caring and always eager to assist people.”

Memorial details for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Actions and Government Revisions

Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend asylum processing and cease granting entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

The airman, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on a news show that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
