The Renowned Musician Urges Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project hopes to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a range of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the benefit event, which managed to collect a considerable total for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of producers and composers. The single showcases a combination of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These proceeds will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative explained. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a couple of million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is above all making this cause better known and proving that another narrative exists.”
The track is launching this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
